Research & Planning
We used Nielsen's heuristics and expert design opinions to review the pages and make adjustments accordingly. We drew upon what limited research had already been done however this was limited so we used a lot of secondary research from industry reports, competitor analysis, and academic reviews to supplement.
Design & Prototyping
We worked in tandem to both get the old designs to a place where they could be tested so that we could incorporate more user feedback and worked on how to remake the designs to create new levels of engagement and interaction.
Main takeaways from the initial round of testing:
Minimalist design

The original design had multiple input boxes, unused social features, and over all looked cluttered. We cleaned up the design and limited the information to allow the user to focus on the activity they were currently working on.
Navagation

Users found it hard to find how to access the activities. They found the label missions confusing and it was disorienting taking them to a whole new page.

In the new version we relabeled the navigation and made the activities accessible from the users home page.
Privacy

In the older designs users usually missed the privacy settings for the activities and were worried and confused about who had access to results of their activities.

In the new designs we defaulted to make all activities private and make it clear in group activities who you are sharing results with by making the user select a friend they would like to do the activity with.
Results
• Iterative user testing allowed us to identify pain points early on, ensuring the final product met user needs.
• Our new designs found a 4.7% increase in user satisfaction.
• Users said positive things like “The activities were very personal,” and they “felt like experts and integrity were involved.”
• Collaborating closely with developers resulted in a smooth implementation and handoff
